Michael McGovern
Michael’s Bio
With 20-plus years of experience in the mortgage industry, Michael uses his contacts, specialized knowledge and experience to analyze any lending scenario and structure a mortgage customized to the client’s exact needs.
“Most commercial property lenders have narrow, inflexible guidelines and only fund perfect scenario loans,” says Michael. “We have curated a network of private lenders who understand that every loan has a unique story, and because of our track record, they’re willing to listen to the needs and issues of our borrowers.”
Michael’s decades of experience analyzing and structuring complex deals have positioned him perfectly to meet the challenging nature of today’s commercial lending landscape. The relationships Michael has forged at CMC have allowed clients to secure funding for projects that once would have been impossible to finance.
Michael’s considerable Wall Street experience is a rare find in today’s commercial mortgage industry. He began his career in the back office of the legendary investment bank Bear Stearns & Co. in 1997. He was quickly promoted and completed the Fixed Income Analyst Program while working in the mortgage department.

Recruited by Lehman Brothers, Michael helped create and sell mortgage products directly to mortgage brokers and direct lenders. The goal was to create multiple sources of mortgages to securitize and create mortgage-backed bonds while cutting out the middlemen and controlling quality of the mortgages. He quickly became a leading producer and went on to work for Lehman affiliates and other small banks in an effort to develop products, build sales teams and open new territories. Michael has originated more than $1 billion in mortgages with his extensive list of client mortgage brokers and direct lenders.
Michael and his team at CMC are experts at analyzing a deal and then telling that story to a lender in a way that points to success. “If a mortgage is structured in a way that makes it attractive to a private lender, a small portfolio bank as well as a large international investment bank, that means more options for our client and possibly more opportunity,” says Michael.
Michael has a degree in business from Iona College. He is a certified commercial underwriter and processor and a member of the National Association of Mortgage Underwriters.
